Biography
Dr. Kost is a Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Washington where she teaches, conducts medical education research, and cares for patients. She attended medical school at the University at Buffalo and completed a Masters of Education at the University of Washington with a focus on educational research and statistics. After finishing her residency in family medicine at the University of Washington, Dr. Kost practiced at a community health center for two years before joining the faculty. At the University of Washington, she participated in the School of Medicine curriculum renewal process through the development and implementation of clinical immersion, intersessions and the themes curriculum. She taught medical students through the College system and directed the Teaching Scholars faculty development certificate program as an associate director for the Center for Learning and Innovation in Medical Education. Dr. Kost’s medical education contributions include service as Underserved Pathway faculty, director of family medicine medical student advising, advisor to the Community Health Advancement Program and co-director of the Community-focused Urban Scholars Program. She currently is the Director of Medical Student Education for the Department of Family Medicine and is elected to represent all UW faculty members as the Deputy Faculty Legislative Representative. She serves as the Medical Director for the MEDEX Northwest Physician Assistant Program and the co-director of the Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho (WWAMI) Rural Integrated Training Program, which is the patient care phase longitudinal integrated clerkship. Nationally, she has served on the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Committee on Medical Student Education, Research Committee, and was the conference chair for the 2020 STFM Medical Student Education Conference. Dr. Kost was a member of the National Board of Medical Examiners Test Development Committee for Epidemiology and Biostatistics and now serves on the Item Review Committee. She completed an editorial fellowship with the journal Family Medicine and is an associate editor of Peer-Reviewed Reports in Medical Education Research (PRiMER) and served as the editor of the online resource Teaching Physician. Dr. Kost continues to practice full spectrum family medicine at Harborview Medical Center where she serves as the Chief of Service for Family Medicine.
